Countless challenges mar the structure of public school’s education system. It has, over the years, produced graduates, some smart and others half-baked with little to no idea or skills requires by the job market. It is, therefore, no doubt that there is something that lacks either in the curricula or resources or even the human resources required to ensure a successful academic empowerment. Several areas need to be improved.

The improvement of the public school’s education system will never be realised unless the government, teachers, students and the parents come together and effect positive changes however they can.

Throughout most of our years in public schools, there is one thing that if we had missed, our lives would be too short. Projects and practicals. They made our lessons lively and worth enjoying. Sadly, in public schools, most of the topics learnt composed mainly of studying subjects that adopted the traditional learning methods. Students would, as a result, spend most of their time cramming ancient history and facts from only one source. Through projects and practicals, students acquaint themselves with a new form of studying that involves the coverage of topics based on real issues affecting us and the world in general. They get out of the class and tackle projects lasting for a particular time. The projects enable a student to relate and master the content as is required. The demand for the projects ensures the student’s undivided attention and total engagement.

The employment of new untrained staff to help out in schools is quite frankly an insult to the teaching fraternity. Even though their help is much appreciated, the staff hardly assess the student’s performance thoroughly. A follow-up of a student’s individual performance is highly recommended since the weak ones who cannot keep up with the bright ones end up thinking what they get is their best. Teachers should, therefore, foster the elevation of the student’s weak areas.

Government aid to public schools sometimes suffers in the hands of corrupt individuals who divert the funds for other irrelevant uses. As such, the schools have experienced regarding teaching resources. Dwelling on only textbooks to teach proves monotonous, and students mostly doze off in classrooms. What needs to be embraced highly, especially now that technology runs the world, is the incorporation of the digital form of teaching. Technological advancements have seen the use of projectors and laptops in the education sector. Apparently, public schools are usually the last to embrace such methods. Students are captivated and fascinated by technology, and if only teachers realised that, they would not be faced with challenges of students flunking their subjects. The government also need to come through with funding and auditing after that to make sure that the money is put to good use.

Lastly, where a student’s work requires help from the parent or the society, it shouldn’t be a hard thing for them to get what they need. Therefore, schools should include the parents, organisations, businesses, recreational places and much more to ensure that the education system does flow smoothly.
