1.    Is private school better for my child as compared to the public schools?

Most private schools offer a perceived higher quality of education as compared to the public schools in most countries. However, this is usually at a higher cost. In many countries, the public education is free, but in private schools, the parents cater for the expense of the education.

There are some countries whereby the quality of public schools is almost as good, if not better than in some private schools.  In some other countries where the quality of public education is compromised, there is still a few public schools which offer high-quality education. Therefore it is the responsibility of the parent to do a research and find out the quality of education among the public and private schools near you.

Some of the aspects that could tell you on the quality of teaching are a comparison of their performance. It is also advisable to look at the performance trends in each school. Is the performance increasing or decreasing? The next aspect is the teacher-student ration. In the institution s where the there is a high number of teacher-student ration, the attention on every student is bound to be higher. This increases the productivity of the school.

2.    How can the government improve the quality of education in public schools?

According to the World Bank, the quality of education offered in public schools highly influences the trend in the economy. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the government to increase the quality of the teaching in public schools as they increase access to the education facilities.

Some of the aspects the government should take care of to improve the quality of education include the motivation of the teachers. The teachers are the determinant of the productivity of a school. Therefore, the state should ensure that they are motivated by increasing their wages, improving their working conditions, having certain benefits and so on.

The next aspect is by increasing the teacher-student ratio. This would help to reduce the workload placed on individual teachers. Consequently, each teacher would be able to deliver quality work and give the students adequate attention.

3.    Should the university education be free?

There is a prevalent hesitation that making the education in the higher learning institutions free would create an influx of the over qualified personnels.  The International Monetary Fund proposed that when a state increases the quality of the workforce, or when a state has more skilled human capital, the output will increase in quality and quantity. This will consequently lead to an increase in the economy of the country.

4.    Should education be geared towards employment?

The curriculums used in most countries were traditionally intended to increase the employability of the people. However, recent times have seen the curriculum developed in such a way that there is more emphasis on the students growing their individual interests, talents and aptitudes. This enables the students to be more empowered in such a way that they can utilize their talents and passion for making a living. Some curriculums have also started to teach students on how to build and manse businesses in a quest to bring up more entrepreneurs.
